![]() ![]() Mary’s Food Bank to say and deliver upon the only other word more important to us than “food.” That word is “hope.” Mary’s Food Bank Alliance and for focusing your immense generosity on not only calling attention to the fact that too many Arizonans do, in fact, go hungry everyday – but for doing something to help solve it. Thank you for your tireless and generous support of St. But with generous support like yours, we can most certainly do it. ![]() None of it is easy, and certainly none of it is cheap. We need to keep working to make the food we provide more nutritious – and perishable products are not only expensive, they are harder to handle than shelf-stable cans. We provide 5,000 meals to kids after school each and every weekday, trying to assure they don’t have to wait to return back to school the next morning before they can eat again. We conduct more than 40 fresh produce distributions in communities where fruits and vegetables are hard to come by – or are too expensive for folks to afford. Mary’s Food Bank distributes more thanĤ0,000 emergency food boxes to households. We delivered a food box to her home so she didn’t have to decide. We once received a call from an elderly woman who had to decide whether to pay bus fare to go pick up a desperately needed new pair of glasses – or eat. And one in seven seniors not only lives with hunger, many make heart-breaking choices about whether to buy food, or forego buying medication, or paying rent, or riding the bus. Nearly one in three children in our state lives with hunger. We are big because we have to be – with such a large and varied distribution area, we see poverty and hunger everywhere it hides. We distributed more than 66 million pounds of food last fiscal year and we distribute to more than 300 non-profit agency partners that are located in an 81,000-square-mile service area. Mary’s Food Bank is not only the first food bank started in the world, it is one of the largest food banks in the country. ![]() Mary’s, we are fortunate to be able to ease that worry for many. We cannot imagine living with the stress that uncertainty brings, but we do know that at St. More than 1.2 million Arizonans live at or below the poverty level, which means they are living very often with the reality that they don’t know where their next meal is coming from or how they will be able to feed their children regular and nutritious meals.
